15 Sep, 2018

“Natural disasters are a wakeup call to humanity that they should stop extracting the Earth.”

Himachal Pradesh is one of the most multi-hazard prone states of India. The state faces various types of natural hazards like the geological hazards of Floodearthquake and landslide; the hydrological hazards of reverie, flash floods and glacial lake outburst floods. Recently, Himachal Pradesh experienced a severe attack of nature. The India Meteorological Development issued a heavy rain alert for Bilaspur, Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh roads closed due to heavy rains.  Six National highways are among over 900 roads closed across. The state Capital Shimla also received the highest rain in August in 117 years. In Kullu district, flash flood hit the Bhuntar town after gushing water swept the Khokhan Nullah. Instead of Nullah, water was flowing on the roads and many vehicles had been swept away or buried under the debris bought by flooding water. However in such situation, L.M.S the best school in Kullu provided the safe transport and quality education to its students. Heavy rain caused floods; landslides caused destruction in the state of H.P. 19 people lost their life due to heavy rain. Landslides occurred all over Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rainfall, a badge collapsed at Solan and landslides near Mandi. Himachal Pradesh government requested the centre for at least Rs. 200 crore as financial aid to meet the loss caused by flood in H.P. L.M.S. took this issue as child centric and taught them about the preventive measures and made them future ready. Our Vision is to build a safer and disaster resilient Himachal by developing a holistic, pro-active, Multi-disaster, technology-driven and community based strategy for disaster management through collective efforts of all Government Agencies and non- Government Organizations.

“We cannot stop natural disaster but we can arm ourselves with knowledge:  so many lives wouldn’t have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness.
